The best AI customer service software: how to judge it before you let it loose
Every vendor now says they have AI. The difference sits in where the AI gets its answer, what it may do on its own and what happens when it doesn't know.
Cuego AI agent
- Understand the questionWhat is this about and what does the customer really want to know.
- Gather contextOrder, customer data and earlier conversations from your own systems.
- Prepare the answerAn answer that holds up, with the follow-up action included.
- Get it doneReturn filed, ticket updated, queued for your approval.

A demo where AI answers a question about opening hours says nothing. A search function from 2010 could handle that too. What you want to see is a question that requires looking into another system, and a question where the answer simply doesn't exist.
On that second question the packages separate. A system that always answers something will at some point invent a return window that isn't right. That isn't a small slip: that customer now has a wrong answer in writing, from your brand. So judge AI on three things: the source, the limit and the recovery.
The situation
Where AI in customer contact goes wrong
The AI answers smoothly and convincingly, but the amount or the window it mentions appears nowhere in your policy.
The AI knows your FAQ but not this customer's order, so the answer stays generic.
There's no way to decide per topic what may go automatically and what passes a person first.
How it works in practice
With that context in place, this is what the next step looks like.
The source: where does the answer come from?
Answers should come from your knowledge base, policy, earlier conversations and connected systems. If it isn't there, no answer should come out.
The limit: what may it do alone?
Adjustable per topic: send by itself, or first a draft for a person to check. A 20 euro return is something else than a complaint about a damaged delivery.
The recovery: what if it doesn't know?
Hand over to a colleague, with the question, the customer details and what's already been checked. No guess and no dead-end contact form.
How to test AI customer service
Ask for an answer that doesn't exist
In the demo, ask about policy you deliberately didn't supply. A system that then invents something will do the same with your customers.
Ask about a specific order
Can the AI look up the order and return the fulfilment status with tracking, or does it stop at pointing to the tracking page?
Ask how the AI learns
When your team corrects a draft, is that correction remembered? Without it you'll be correcting the same thing next month.
Ask about language
A customer emailing in German should get an answer in German, in the same tone, without a separate setup per language.
Ask where the data is processed
Which models are used, where do they run, and is that in the data processing agreement and the list of subprocessors?
Ask what it costs when it works
With a rate per resolved AI question your bill rises as the AI gets better. Calculate that on your own volume.
From context to result
What it delivers
What bringing context and action together means in practice.
In every demo, ask what happens with a topic you never supplied. Cuego then invents nothing, reports that the answer is missing and puts the conversation through to a human.
The gap is added to a list, so you can fill it in.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
By letting the AI draw only on sources that are yours: your knowledge base, your policy, earlier conversations and your connected systems. If the answer isn't in there, the system should say so and hand the conversation over rather than composing something plausible. On top of that you decide per topic whether an answer goes out automatically or first passes a person as a draft.
